Essential features for a Consumer camcorder
I know as soon as you get a camcorder you just want to press that red button and get shooting. But there are things you should think about first - the features and the quality of the filming.

1. Image Stability
Does the camera eliminate shaky hands? Technology has improved and all camcorder should include this but make sure you double check.

2.Check out the zoom
You will need to check out the optical zoom capabilities before you buy. It can be hard to check it out in some shops but the main shops should have the camcordors ON display. The optical zoom will give the picture the quality while it increase.  As for Digital zoom blows up the picture and the quality decreases.

3.Resolution
All camcorders should come HD and the highest you can get in HD is 1080p so far.

4. Video Format
You will need to make sure that your video editing software is compatible with your camcorder. Most camcorders  video format is in MPV  MOV, AVI and AVCHD.
